Charlotte Turner

I see my role as a supervisor as being both supportive and for helping supervisees with their growth. Supervision also helps people to navigate difficult professional boundaries. My style is flexible and intuitive, following the needs of the supervisee. I enjoy the challenge of finding an approach to suit an individual, looking to find the right balance of challenge and support for them.

One of my strengths is my ability to relate theory to practice, helping supervisees explore recognised models or ways of thinking that might help them to clarify or reframe their issues. I have a positive and solutions-focussed approach to this work. I hope that through engaging with me, supervisees will discover some new perspectives on their work, to help them with their own development.

Experience and Development

I draw on a wide variety of ways of working, having had long experience as a leader, doctor, teacher, mentor, supervisor and coach. As a doctor, I did some initial training in psychiatry (including Cognitive Analytic Therapy), and after qualifying as a GP I worked for many years consulting with patients. I also trained in small group work and teamwork, helping groups of newly qualified doctors to develop their practice.

At Norwich Medical School, I was a coach and mentor to GPs who taught our medical students, helping them to develop as GP teachers. As a Senior Appraiser for NHSEngland, I supervised and supported colleagues who provided annual appraisals for doctors. I have now retired from these medical roles.

I started working as a coach with GP colleagues using MBTI (from 2004), and I have my own small coaching practice. My coaching work has developed since my retirement as a doctor and is informed by many models, including Brief Solutions-Focussed coaching.

I have worked as a coach for Akeso since 2021 and now also work as a supervisor of coaches within that organisation. I enjoy learning and continue to develop my coaching and supervision practice with regular CPD, including pursuing my own supervision.

I am signed up to the Global Code of Ethics.

Specialisms in Supervision

My background is in the NHS, so I have a particular understanding of that context. However, I enjoy working with people from different disciplines, including from outside the NHS.

Interest Outside of Coaching

I enjoy my garden and walking outdoors. I am also a keen amateur viola player.
